An open call is a form of crowdsourcing that focuses on engaging a broad array of people in a contest to contribute creative knowledge and generate fresh perspectives about a specific problem, followed by the sharing and implementation of exceptional ideas that are contributed, in collaboration with the community.
Teen Health 360's community steering committee hosts an annual open call to engage the community (including youth, parents/guardians, teachers, services providers and community members) in an open dialogue about communication and relationships with teens. The goal is to empower teens to make informed decisions about their health and well-being.
My Health, My Choice: What does Empowering Teen Sexual Health and STI Prevention look like?
The 2025 Open Call focuses on promoting teen-centered, inclusive, and stigma-free conversations about teen sexual health and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The contest was open to any individual or any group to share original submissions surrounding the above theme to address the following goals:
- Empower teens with knowledge, resources, and confidence to navigate STI prevention, testing, and treatment without barriers.
- Expand access to sexual health education and healthcare services to ensure teens receive timely and accurate information.
- Reduce stigma and foster safe, supportive environments where teens can openly engage with trusted adults and access necessary care.
A Judging Committee was organized to evaluate the submissions. Each submission was reviewed by at least five judges from the judging team, consisting of people with diverse backgrounds and experiences (including teens).
Submissions were scored using the following criteria:
- Relevance to the open call theme
- Relevance to program target populations (middle and high school students, teachers, parents, guardians, and other caring adults)
- Creativity
- Inclusivity
- Feasibility of information for program use
- Overall quality

We received 34 submissions from 37 individuals, including school-age youth, parents, teachers and other community members.
All submissions were screened for eligibility by the organizing team. The 34 submissions were evaluated by a group of 18 independent judges who represented diverse sub-populations, including clinicians, researchers, teachers/faculty, middle school and high school students, parents, and other community members.
Each submission was scored by a team of six judges, with a member from each sub-population. An average score from the judging teams was used to rank the submissions for prizes using the judging criteria.
