About this Program

Old Dominion University offers a Doctor of Philosophy degree in computational and applied mathematics and is designed to produce applied mathematicians and statisticians who can meet the growing demand for analytical and computational skills in traditional scientific and multi-disciplinary fields. Students in the program can choose to pursue an option in either applied mathematics, statistics, or biostatistics.

What are the requirements to apply for Computational & Applied Mathematics at ºÚÁÏÕýÄÜÁ¿?
Students entering the Doctor of Philosophy program in Computational & Applied Mathematics should meet the minimum university admission requirements Graduate Admission.
  • Applicants should have very strong backgrounds in mathematics, statistics, computer science, or application areas with a mathematics component (e.g. physics or engineering).

  • Students may be admitted directly to the Ph.D. program with either a bachelor’s or a master’s degree. A grade point average of 3.00 (4.00 scale) in the major and related mathematics courses is required.

  • Prospective students should submit their application, transcripts, resume, essay, and three letters of recommendation to the Office of Graduate Admissions through the Future Monarch Portal.
