HAKENSCHLAGEN
An Exhibition of Works by Colten Taylor

On View: Feb. 26th - Mar. 12th
Opening Reception: Feb. 26th, 6 - 8 pm

Hakenschlagen is a German word describing the zig-zag direction of a rabbit in flight. The works displayed channel the phenomenon of movement, describing a chase. The paintings are marked with alternating periods of spontaneity and control. The canvases are laid unstretched and directly against the wall, supporting a dense structure of added textures using paper and canvas, folded, bunched, and cut to be stacked on top of each other. The viewer is invited to parse the figures of this narrative through complex, maximal collage-compositions, like attempting to peer at animals through foliage.
